WARREN - James "Jimmy" Stephen Rimar, 88, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014.

The sixth son of Andrew and Barbara Yuhaz Rimar, Jimmy was born Aug.7, 1926, in Leechburg, Pa. The family moved to Warren in 1936.

Jim married his best friend, Helen Gania Rimar, on July 12, 1952. They were married for 52 years and never had an argument, always kissed goodnight and told each other "I love you" before her death in November 2005.

Jimmy left school after the 10th grade to join the Navy, and served in the South Pacific. When he returned home, he received his GED high school diploma in August 1946 with a 99.6 GPA.

He retired from Packard Electric in 1989 with 32 years. He also worked at RMI in Niles for 12 years in the machine lab.

Jim was a very active member of Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church. He was a member of the church council where he was president, vice president, secretary, treasurer and epitrop (financial secretary). He was also the superintendent for church hall rentals over the years.

He loved all sports - golf, football, basketball, softball and baseball. His biggest thrills were when he was captain of Central Junior High School football team. During his softball years, he played in the 1953 World Slow Pitch Tournament at Gordon Park, making it to the quarterfinals for the Warren VFW. He retired from playing on his 60th birthday.

Jim is survived by two daughters, Denise (Jerry) Higgins of Warren and Rebecca Gougler of Austintown; four grandchildren, Anna (Jeffrey) Rager, Christopher (Vanessa) Higgins, Kevin (Amanda) Higgins and Raelyn Jaime Gougler; and three great-grandchildren, Olivia Henry, Isabella VanKirk and Conor Higgins. He is also survived by three siblings, Julius Rimar, Barbara Readman and Mary Boker; and by godchild James Stan. He will also be missed by many nieces and nephews, all his friends at the Slovak Club, the Veterans Adminstration, the Army-Navy 426 and his friends at Holy Resurrection Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers and sister, Steven, Andrew, Betty, Joseph, Johnny, Mike and Frank.

Jimmy's family will receive family and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, with a 6:45 p.m. memorial service at the Peter Rossi and Son Memorial Chapel, 1884 North Road N.E., Warren, and 12 to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Holy Resurrection Romanian Orthodox Church, 1836 North Road N.E., Warren. There will be a funeral service 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Jonathon Cholcher officiating.
